the #talk2mebro movement

#TALK2MEBRO WAS BORN FROM LOSS.

#TALK2MEBRO EXISTS TO END MALE SUICIDE.

“I had no idea he was struggling. If only he had talked to me, he might still be here” Common words echoed after a loss to suicide.

Sadly, society still believes that men must hide their struggles in order to maintain control and “be a real man”. #talk2mebro was created to provide men with a safe, male-only platform to open up and share their struggles with their friends without judgement or ridicule.

Most men who are at risk of suicide have never sought professional help. Many suicide prevention programs support people that have reached out for help, but they are not identifying and assisting the high-risk group of men who are too private or self-reliant to seek help. Sadly, the result is FATAL.

1 in 4 men access help

Our targeted early intervention program aims to reduce the incidence of suicide by:

– breaking down the stigma surrounding suicide

– showing men that it’s not weak to ask for help

– empowering men to take control of their mental health

– encouraging men to have each other’s back on an emotional level

#talk2mebro does not offer crisis and emergency support. Please contact one of the services listed on our contact us page who can offer assistance 24 hours a day.

Since our inception in 2018, the volunteers behind #talk2mebro have presented to over 10,000 people within the Illawarra, South-Western Sydney and Newcastle Regions of NSW. The impact has been widespread, and the outcomes incredible. Our simple, no-fluff ethos resonates with men and has saved countless lives.

EVERYONE IS AT WAR WITH SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

BROTHERS DON’T LET BROTHERS FIGHT ALONE.

EDUCATE

Break down the stigma surrounding suicide, and educate people on the impact suicide has on our families and communities.

EMPOWER

Empower men to take control of their mental health and wellbeing.

SUPPORT

Encourage men to have each other's back on an emotional level.

Suicide exists in the shadows of our society and will continue to claim lives if we continue to keep it a secret. We need to create societal change and break the stigma around suicide.

Dispelling the common misconceptions surrounding suicide and creating awareness around the devastating impact it has on our families and communities will drag it out of the shadows so it can be discussed and prevented.

Led by #talk2mebro, these conversations are being had in Schools, Businesses and Community groups like sporting clubs and other community interest groups.
